A bag a day keeps the clutter away

Published: 21/04/2020

A job you’ve been putting off for years no doubt. If you're putting your property on the market, decluttering is key to making that all-important first impression and to ensure that your property will be out in front.

De-cluttering is an essential tool to maximise the space you have in your home. One of the top things potential buyers are looking for when viewing a property is how much space there is? If you’re filling it with boxes and knick-knacks, then you’re doing a disservice to the potential space.

Photographs and virtual tours need to say, “Come and look at me. Aren’t I wonderful” when buyers are browsing Rightmove and Zoopla. With more than 98 percent of buyers logging on to the internet to search for their new homes, the first few seconds’ viewing is crucial. The photographs must present your property in the best possible light.

We should take our lead from the experts, the new home developers. Their Show Homes are the great examples of how to successfully present a property for sale:  beautiful furnishings and fittings coupled with minimal clutter.

However, perfection is difficult to achieve in our normal busy day to day lives. Our homes aren’t Show Homes, they are where we live and are full of our personal belongings. But with some creative thinking and sticking to the principle of ‘less is more’, your property will attract greater interest. A clean, tidy, and uncluttered property can really help its appeal to the widest audience.

Our advice is to get cracking, get those bin liners out, and start sorting. It’s a win-win, you will achieve a better price for your property, the charity shops will benefit and you’ll be ahead of the game.
